چکیده

A number of investigations have implied in recent years that a relationship exists between adenosine 3', 5'-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic AMP) and the growth of cells . Numerous experimental systems have been used to examine several different cell types. The result has been some definitive information about how cells divide, what role cyclic AMP plays in cell replication, and which periods of the cell cycle are affected by cyclic AMP . This review article will primarily consider the role of cyclic AMP in mammalian cells in culture in both resting and dividing states . The examination of cultured cells has the advantage that the intracellular levels of cyclic AMP and the enzyme activities which may be influenced either directly or indirectly by this cyclic nucleotide can be examined as a function of a reasonably welldefined chemical medium. Furthermore, the role that cyclic AMP exerts in cells that have been shifted from the resting to the dividing state may be assessed. Because of the many different approaches that have been used, some of the information obtained appears to be contradictory (although it still suggests a role for cyclic AMP in cellular proliferation) . The purpose of this report is to discuss individually the results that support specific aspects of the action of cyclic AMP at the morphological and molecular levels .

Expression of Recombinant Phosphodiesterase 3A and 3B Using Baculovirus Expression System

Background: Phosphodiesterase 3A (PDE3A) and phosphodiesterase 3B (PDE3B) play a critical role in the regulation of intracellular level of adenosine 3´,5´-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic AMP, cAMP) and guanosine 3´,5´-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic GMP, cGMP). Subsequently PDE3 inhibitors have shown to relax vascular and inhibit platelet aggregation in cardiovascular disease. Objectives: In th...

Cytidylyl cyclase activity of bacterial exotoxins

3',5'-Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and 3',5'cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) are key second messengers for a wide variety of mammalian cellular processes. The natural occurrence of a third cyclic nucleotide, 3',5'-cyclic cytidine monophosphate (cCMP) had been discussed very controversially 30–35 years ago [1-3], but later, cCMP was identified unambiguously in various mammalian tis...

The inhibition of plant and animal adenosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate phosphodiesterases by a cell-division-promoting substance from tissues of higher plant species.

One member of a new class of cell-division-promoting factors, that has been given the trivial name of cytokinesin I, is a potent inhibitor of adenosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate phosphodiesterases of both plant and animal origin. Since an adenylate cyclase has been demonstrated in this study to be present in plant cells, the results suggest that cytokinesin I may be exerting its biological eff...

Guanosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate: a possible intracellular mediator of mitogenic influences in lymphocytes.

Adenosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic AMP) has been shown to have an antimitotic role in various cell types, and it has been hypothesized that a decrease of cyclic AMP concentration in the cell initiates or permits cell division. This hypothesis has been evaluated with respect to clonal proliferation of lymphocytes. Two potent mitogenic agents, phytohemagglutinin and concanavalin A, whic...

Imaging of PDE2- and PDE3-Mediated cGMP-to-cAMP Cross-Talk in Cardiomyocytes

Cyclic nucleotides 3',5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and 3',5'-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) are important second messengers that regulate cardiovascular function and disease by acting in discrete subcellular microdomains. Signaling compartmentation at these locations is often regulated by phosphodiesterases (PDEs). Some PDEs are also involved in the cross-talk between the two...
